CEO & Business Lead

Bala Balaguru is the CEO and Business Lead of Athreya Inc., the US parent company headquartered in Edison, New Jersey. His career spans the NHS, management consulting at KPMG and Deloitte, and over a decade at Johnson & Johnson — where he helped found and lead J&J's Strategic Capabilities team, creating bespoke customer solutions across the company's MedTech portfolio. Trained in Clinical Engineering at the University of Liverpool and holding an MBA from Cranfield School of Management, Bala brings a rare combination of engineering rigour, NHS operational experience, and international healthcare strategy to the Athreya MedTech consortium. His consulting work across NHS Trusts — spanning Cancer, Vascular, and Urology services — and his strategic roles at J&J and Deloitte inform his approach to commercialising AI-assisted medical technology. At Athreya, he manages the business infrastructure of the consortium, including NIH SBIR grant submission management, investor relations, hardware supply chain for the Butterfly iQ3 portable ultrasound system, and international market strategy for the USA and India. Dr. Bala works closely with seed investor Vikram Jagtiani and coordinates hardware logistics for Bangalore.
